Chardonnay Golf Club professional Shawn McEntee is headed back to a senior major.
McEntee fired a 3-under 69 to earn medalist honors in a U.S. Open Senior Open qualifier held Tuesday at par-72 Turlock Golf and Country Club. McEntee, who played in last year’s PGA Championship, made his charge with four birdies on his last six holes.
The second automatic berth into the championship proper came down to a playoff between four players who finished at 70. Anthony Smith of Clovis, another professional, claimed the second spot by winning the playoff.
First alternate is Wayne Carter, an amateur from Blue Jay, California. Second alternate is Clifford Smith, another amateur from Denair.
